Biography of Lee Pinkerson

"Lee Pinkerson has an affinity with nature.  Her inspirational melodies explore its beautiful extremes, from Florida's coral reefs to the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains. To hear her play evokes the serene wonder of a day in paradise. With fine flatpicking finesse, she is preserving our heritage in folk music. Lee's music is a branch of the acoustic guitar tree that is bearing tasty fruit."

At age thirteen, living in Washington, D.C., Lee took her guitar and headed for the neighborhood park. There she wrote songs about birds, rivers, wildlife and trees.  In 1984, she graduated from Marlboro College in Vermont with a degree in environmental science/art. She wrote her thesis on using the arts to teach about the environment.

In the 1990's, Lee attended fiddler's conventions in the Southern Appalachian Mountains, where she further developed her flatpicking, acoustic guitar style and collected mountain folksongs. She performs at festivals, state parks, universities and coffeehouses in that region.

A Native American dancer led her to the pow-wows, where she began collecting and writing American Indian folksongs, entertaining at pow-wows, raising awareness about tribal life among the Cherokee and the Seminole.  She performs at libraries, camps, elementary schools, orchards and storytelling events.

Lee spends the winter entertaining at outdoor events in Florida, performing songs about their natural history, and has written several songs about the various tribes inhabiting Florida before America was discovered in 1492.

Lee's music makes your heart aware of this planet that we share.
